Use the hook gun to recover indicated supplies

The Grappling Hook Gun in DREADMOOR retrieves salvage that you cannot simply pick up from the boat. Equip it, aim at an indicated target, confirm a successful grapple and reel the object back. The documented demo uses it for floating debris and adhesive beetles attached to rocks.

Mr. Feudal's demo-labelled player experience supplies these actions. The developer's official demo feature announcement also identifies recovering drifting cargo with the Grappling Hook Gun as part of exploration.

Aim, grapple and reel

Bring the boat close enough to the supply area, leave the helm and equip the hook gun. Aim at the indicated collectible and use the firing prompt. Once the hook has connected, use the retrieve action to draw it in.

The demo recording includes both floating salvage and beetles pulled from the nearby cliffside. If a shot fails to connect, check the aim and approach rather than assuming that every visible object is a valid target. A mine-like object in the water should not be treated as ordinary salvage merely because it is floating.

Use your current on-screen bindings. Older playtest tutorials provide a numbered equipment shortcut, but that is not enough to promise an unchanged universal key across every version and control configuration.

Collect the still-repair materials with the right tools

John the Fifth's moonshine-still task gives the hook gun an early purpose. He directs you to adhesive beetles on rocks behind the trading post and iron barrels in the area. After refuelling the boat, approach the collection points and retrieve the indicated supplies.

This trip also requires Coral Fiber on Angler's Island. That portion uses the axe on coral growth, not the hook gun. The two tools solve different collection tasks during the same errand.

The same resources matter again during hull-protection crafting, so inspect what the recipe requires before returning to the dock. There is no supported guarantee that every recovered barrel contains a particular quantity or rare component.

Keep salvage recovery separate from fishing and combat

The hook gun's retrieval action is not the same as the fishing rod's stamina-and-tension fight. One brings indicated supplies toward you; the other requires bait, a bite and landing a fish. Likewise, the official demo announcement names both the Grappling Hook Gun and Harpoon Launcher rather than treating them as one interchangeable tool.

Older playtest footage shows the hook interacting with waterway mechanisms. Those historical interactions should not replace the current demo's actual Throat controls, repair objectives and water-flow panel. Use the prompt on the mechanism in your build.

The collected material does not establish a current retrieval-speed upgrade, maximum range or guaranteed rapid-click bonus. Follow the successful-grapple and reeling sequence without depending on unconfirmed tool statistics.

FAQ

Can I collect the blue adhesive beetles with the hook gun?

Yes. The documented demo retrieves the beetles from the rocks during the still-repair material trip.

Does the hook gun harvest Coral Fiber?

The demo uses the axe for the coral growth on Angler's Island. Use the hook for indicated salvage and beetles.

Can I grapple every object in the water?

No such rule is established. Use indicated collection targets; floating hazards should not be assumed to be safe salvage.
